        "content": "<p>Thaksin to push Yangon to reconcile<\/p>\n<p>THAILAND: Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said on Monday he<br>\nwould urge Myanmar's military junta during talks next month to<br>\nspeed up reconciliation with ethnic rebel groups, some of whom<br>\nare blamed for running drug operations in border areas between<br>\nthe two countries.<\/p>\n<p>Thaksin, who is scheduled to visit Yangon on Feb. 9 and Feb.<br>\n10, said the political conflict in Myanmar, ethnic rebellions and<br>\npoverty were the root causes of drug production.<\/p>\n<p>Most drugs produced in Myanmar, mainly heroin and<br>\nmethamphetamines, find their way into Thailand before being<br>\nsmuggled to other countries.<\/p>\n<p>The Thai government has announced a major campaign beginning<br>\nFeb. 1 to eradicate the growing drug problem.<\/p>\n<p>Thai officials privately accuse Myanmar's military rulers of<br>\nturning a blind eye to the drug lords, who operate in virtually<br>\nautonomous regions. --AFP<\/p>",
