        "content": "<p>Thailand's rice exports fall<\/p>\n<p>BANGKOK, Thailand (AP): In a blow to cash-strapped Thailand,<br>\nthe country's second quarter rice exports are likely to decline<br>\nbecause of sluggish demand from leading importing nations,<br>\ngovernment officials and rice industry executives said Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Key rice importers, such as the Philippines and Indonesia, are<br>\nset to reduce purchases in the second quarter because they are<br>\nexpected to harvest significantly more themselves than last year,<br>\nofficials said.<\/p>\n<p>That's bad news for Thailand, the world's largest rice<br>\nexporter. Its earnings from rice exports have already been hit by<br>\na 20 percent fall in prices since the start of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, rice accounted for about 4 percent of exports,<br>\nearning US$2.1 billion.<\/p>\n<p>While some rice traders believe exports will rebound in the<br>\nthird quarter, they said that will be because the price will<br>\ncontinue to drop.<\/p>",
