Surayud Chulanond told reporters in his first<br>\nformal press conference since taking office last year that<br>\nThailand would not resort to violence and would protest by<br>\nclosing border checkpoints.<\/p>\n<p>Thailand said last week that Yangon-backed ethnic Karen<br>\nguerrillas has crossed the border in northwest Mae Hong Son<br>\nprovince and attacked a police post. Three Thais were taken<br>\nhostage but were later released.<\/p>\n<p>High-ranking Thai officials said earlier this week that the<br>\nattack, involving grenade launchers and automatic weapons, was<br>\nthe work of Myanmar troops.<\/p>",
