        "content": "<p>Istanbul (ANTARA) - Thailand\u2019s Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow\nsaid on Wednesday (22\/4) that he had met with Myanmar\u2019s President Min\nAung Hlaing and discussed the possibility of Naypyidaw\u2019s return to the\nAssociation of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).<\/p>\n<p>Sihasak, who was visiting Myanmar, outlined three main objectives of\nthe visit: to promote peace efforts, strengthen border cooperation, and\nencourage renewed regional engagement.<\/p>\n<p>Sihasak urged Myanmar to address its concerns regarding ASEAN and\nstated that Thailand supports Myanmar\u2019s return to full participation in\nthe grouping through gradual engagement.<\/p>\n<p>He also welcomed the granting of clemency to detained political\nfigures and expressed hope that such steps would continue to support\nnational reconciliation.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Myanmar announced that all death sentences for convicts\nwould be commuted to life imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p>This marks the first amnesty measure set by junta leader Min Aung\nHlaing since assuming the presidency earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>Among those whose sentences were reduced is former President Aung San\nSuu Kyi, leader of the now-dissolved National League for Democracy\n(NLD).
