KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysia's Pilgrims Management and Fund
\nBoard, Tabung Haji, plans to operate an electric train network
\nbetween Thailand and Singapore with technology from Germany's
\nSiemens, the Bernama news agency reported Saturday.<\/p>\n
The organization dedicated to sending thousands of Malaysian
\nMoslems yearly to the haj in Mecca, is finalizing a study with
\nSiemens on operating high-speed trains, Bernama quoted Abang Abu
\nBakar, a cabinet minister for Moslem affairs here, as saying.<\/p>\n
\"The project is expected to be very viable,\" Abang said,
\nadding that if approved, the rail network would run from Haadyai
\nin Thailand to Singapore through some 900 kilometers (562.5
\nmiles) of peninsular Malaysia.<\/p>\n
Tabung Haji, an enterprising religious organization, is also
\ninvolved in plantation, housing, manufacturing and construction
\nactivities.<\/p>\n
Abang said the pilgrims board intended to invest heavily in
\nthe new venture to reflect its confidence in the locomotive
\nbusiness.<\/p>",
