Thailand seeks Myanmar help<\/p>\n
BANGKOK (AFP): Thailand's narcotics chiefs have officially
\nasked for Myanmar's help to track down a suspected drug lord
\nthought to be hiding in the jungles along the Myanmar border,
\nofficials said Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The request was made at a high-level meeting of the
\nneighboring countries' anti-drug agencies in Myanmar's eastern
\nTachilek township, officials said.<\/p>\n
Thai Office of Narcotics Control Board deputy secretary
\ngeneral Sorasit Sangprasert said Myanmar agreed to help in the
\nhunt for Surachai Ngernthongfu, wanted for questioning over a
\nhuge amphetamine racket in Thailand.<\/p>\n
"We asked for information leading to the arrest of Surachai,
\nor Bang Ron as he is otherwise known, and other drug traffickers
\nwhose names we cannot disclose to the public," he told AFP.<\/p>\n
Thai police in October offered a reward of some 5,300 dollars
\nfor information on the whereabouts of the fugitive, who is
\nbelieved to have fled to Myanmar after a four-hour gun and
\ngrenade battle with police in Bangkok last year.<\/p>\n
Surachai escaped from his house after the battle with anti-
\nnarcotics police, in which one suspect died and four police were
\ninjured.<\/p>",
