Thailand, RI sign taxation treaty<\/p>\n
BANGKOK (DPA): Thailand and Indonesia signed a double taxation
\npact on Friday and agreed to pursue measures to boost economic
\ncooperation between the two Southeast Asian nations.<\/p>\n
The agreement on avoidance of double taxation and prevention
\nof fiscal evasion of taxes was co-signed by Thai Foreign Minister
\nSurakiat Sathirathai and his Indonesian counterpart Alwi Shihab
\nin Bangkok during the fourth joint commission of economic and
\ntechnical cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n
The joint commission also agreed to set up a sub-committee to
\npursue trade options between the two member states of the
\nAssociation of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).<\/p>\n
"We have agreed that the government of Thailand will give
\npriority to the Indonesian aircraft industry, if renewal of
\naircraft for rain making or fire fighting are needed," said Alwi
\nShihab.<\/p>\n
The ministers also agreed to pursue possibilities of counter-
\ntrade as one means of boosting cooperation.<\/p>\n
"For instance, when our Ministry of Agriculture wants an
\naircraft for rain-making, Thailand will consider Indonesian
\naircraft, and if Thailand still has financial difficulties,
\nIndonesia will consider counter purchases, either agricultural
\nproducts or other products," said Surakiat.<\/p>\n
Thailand and Indonesia are founding members of ASEAN, which
\nhas already put in place an ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) to boost
\nsub-regional trade.<\/p>",
