Thailand, RI agree on barter deal<\/p>\n
BANGKOK: Thailand has agreed in principle to exchange Thai
\nrice for Indonesian civilian aircraft to use in a royal
\nartificial rainmaking project, an official said Saturday.<\/p>\n
Officials from the two countries met in Bangkok on Friday and
\nagreed on a broad framework for the barter deal, but couldn't
\nagree on details such as the type of aircraft, said Anant
\nBhusitthikul, the Thai deputy permanent secretary for agriculture
\nand cooperatives.<\/p>\n
He told The Associated Press that Indonesia wants to give
\nThailand two medium-sized aircraft and two small aircraft, but
\nThailand wants four small aircraft.<\/p>\n
\"The artificial rain agency has made it clear that medium-
\nsized aircraft are useless in their work,\" he said.<\/p>\n
If the deal succeeds, the royal cloud seeding project would
\nsave US$51 million earmarked for purchasing four aircraft, Anant
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
He said the amount of rice to be given to Indonesia can only
\nbe calculated after it becomes clear which aircraft Thailand will
