        "content": "<p>Thailand reveals 'halal' hub plans<\/p>\n<p>BANGKOK: In a bid to increase its share of the world's US$80-<br>\nbillion halal food market, Thailand will next year launch its<br>\nfirst industrial estate for halal food production in the southern<br>\nprovince of Pattani, a senior minister said on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Thai Finance Minister Somkid Jatusripitak revealed Thailand's<br>\nhalal ambitions in an opening address to the Organization of the<br>\nIslamic Conference (OIC) Task Force on Small and Medium-Sized<br>\nEnterprises (SMEs) being hosted by Bangkok from Monday to<br>\nWednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Thailand, a predominantly Buddhist country, has been an<br>\nobserver member of the OIC since 1998. The OIC includes 57<br>\nIslamic countries.<\/p>\n<p>Thailand's three southernmost provinces - Narathiwat, Pattani<br>\nand Yala - have majority Muslim populations and therefore are at<br>\nthe center of Thailand's halal food ambitions, Somkid said. --<br>\nDPA<\/p>",
