        "content": "<p>Thailand, Myanmar seek to mend ties<\/p>\n<p>BANGKOK (Reuters): Thailand indicated on Wednesday it wanted<br>\nto improve its diplomatic ties with Myanmar's military government<br>\nafter a series of border incidents strained relations.<\/p>\n<p>The chief of Thailand's army, Surayuth Chulanont, said before<br>\ndeparting on a three-day official visit to Yangon that his<br>\nmission was to sooth relations between the two neighbors.<\/p>\n<p>Relations between Thailand and Myanmar have been tested in<br>\nrecent months after a series of marine gun battles along disputed<br>\nborder areas between the southern Thai province of Ranong and<br>\nMyanmar's Victoria Point.<\/p>\n<p>At least seven people have been killed in the incidents,<br>\ninvolving armed Myanmar vessels and the Thai navy. The clashes<br>\nhave occurred sporadically since the middle of 1998.<\/p>\n<p>Both countries claim the dispute area, which covers a 100<br>\nkilometer offshore border in the Andaman Sea.<\/p>",
