        "content": "<p>Thailand gets ADB loan<\/p>\n<p>BANGKOK (AFP): The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will approve<br>\nloans of US$600 million to help reform Thailand's battered<br>\nfinance sector and to minimize the social impact of the country's<br>\neconomic recession, ADB officials said Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The loans are part of the ADB's US$1.2 billion contribution to<br>\nthe $17.2 billion rescue package arranged by the International<br>\nMonetary Fund.<\/p>\n<p>\"The immediate objective of this program is to restore<br>\nmacroeconomic stability and confidence in the financial system,<br>\nincluding the need to address the root causes of the current<br>\nfinancial difficulties,\" said ADB Vice President Bong-Suh Lee.<\/p>\n<p>He told a news conference the loans would likely be finalized<br>\nin December and early next year.<\/p>\n<p>An ADB team met Friday with Thai government officials,<br>\nincluding new premier Chuan Leekpai, his two economic czars,<br>\nFinance Minister Tarrin Nimmanahaeminda and Deputy Prime Minister<br>\nSupachai Panitchpakdi and Governor of the Bank of Thailand<br>\nChaiyawat Wibulswasdi.<\/p>",
