        "content": "<p>Thailand eases loan rules<\/p>\n<p>BANGKOK (AFP): The Bank of Thailand said yesterday that it<br>\nwould ease some rules concerning provisions for sub-standard<br>\nloans for finance companies.<\/p>\n<p>Director of financial institutions supervision and development<br>\nTheerachai Puvanartnaranubala said the central bank would meet<br>\nrepresentatives of the Association of Finance Companies this week<br>\nto discuss the provisions.<\/p>\n<p>He said the talks would focus on definitions of loans<br>\nconsidered to be sub-standard.<\/p>\n<p>The Thai government caused ripples in the financial sectors<br>\nwhen it announced new loan reserve requirements and capital<br>\nincreases in March as part of efforts to shore up ailing finance<br>\ncompanies.<\/p>\n<p>Many Thai finance companies have been saddled with billions of<br>\nbaht in bad or doubtful loans, mainly related to the slumping<br>\nproperty sector.<\/p>",
