Thai refugees in good condition: UN<\/p>\n
MALAYSIA: Officials from the United Nations refugee agency said
\non Wednesday that 131 Thai Muslims who entered Malaysia to flee
\nescalating violence in southern Thailand were in good condition
\nas officials begin meeting and interviewing the refugees.<\/p>\n
A delegation from the Kuala Lumpur office of the United
\nNations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) arrived in
\nMalaysia's northern Kelantan state Tuesday to begin the
\ninterviews, an official from the agency said.<\/p>\n
The Thai refugees had crossed over to Malaysia on Thursday,
\nclaiming they were fleeing violence and persecution from Thai
\nsecurity forces, who have been accused of targeting Moslems in
\ntheir bid to quell an insurgency in the south.<\/p>\n
The 64 men, 24 women and 43 children are being sheltered at
\nthe Tanah Merah immigration transit center in Kelantan, the Star
\ndaily reported.<\/p>\n
Thai authorities expressed concern Tuesday that the UNHCR
\ninvolvement would be exploited by Moslem militants seeking to
\npaint the southern situation as one of political and religious
