        "content": "<p>THAI ready for privatization<\/p>\n<p>BANGKOK (AFP): Thai Airways International (THAI) on Monday<br>\ncleared the first hurdle on the road to its long-awaited<br>\nprivatization, receiving the green-light on plans to sell 400<br>\nmillion shares from the state enterprises policy committee,<br>\nofficials said.<\/p>\n<p>Committee chairman and Deputy Prime Minister Supachai<br>\nPanitchpakdi said the plan called for the sale of 300 million new<br>\nshares and 100 million old shares held by the Finance Ministry.<br>\nThe plan was put forward by THAI advisors, including Credit<br>\nSuisse First Boston, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Supachai said it would now be submitted to cabinet for<br>\napproval, either at a weekly meeting Tuesday or next week.<br>\nHe said the share sale was expected to begin over the next three<br>\nmonths, given cabinet approval.<\/p>\n<p>According to the advisors, the 400 million shares should be<br>\nsold to a strategic partner and to general investors, while the<br>\nFinance Ministry should maintain a stake of at least 70 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Speculation has been rife in the media here in recent months<br>\nover reported talks between THAI and a range of potential<br>\npartners world-wide.<\/p>",
