Thai poachers must be charged: Activist<\/p>\n
MEDAN, North Sumatra: An Achenese environmentalist has called
\non Aceh Police to submit investigation files to prosecutors over
\nthe seizure of 20 Thai fishing vessels and the detention of
\nhundreds of crew members for alleged illegal fishing.<\/p>\n
Adi Mansar said here on Saturday that the Thai fishermen, who
\nwere arrested by security personnel several months ago, should be
\nprosecuted and sentenced to deter other Thai fishermen from
\npoaching in future.<\/p>\n
"Poaching by Thai fishermen in Aceh's waters has been on the
\nincrease and it should not be overlooked. They must be punished,"
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Adi, also chief of the Legal Aid Agency's environment
\ndivision, said taking action would show the international
\ncommunity that Indonesia upheld law enforcement.<\/p>\n
Some 20 vessels were impounded in the districts of Singkil,
\nAceh Jaya, West, East, and South Aceh. --Antara<\/p>",
