        "content": "<p>Thai PM arrives tomorrow<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Thai Prime Minister Banharn Silpa Archa is<br>\nscheduled to arrive here tomorrow for a two-day visit that will<br>\ninclude a courtesy call on President Soeharto.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;It is has become customary in ASEAN (the Association of<br>\nSoutheast Asian Nations) for new heads of state to take time to<br>\nvisit other neighboring states,&quot; Minister\/State Secretary<br>\nMoerdiono said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Banharn was installed as prime minister in July after his<br>\nChart Thai party,in an alliance with seven other political<br>\nparties won the election.<\/p>\n<p>Though this is his first trip as prime minister, Soeharto and<br>\nBanharn have met several times before. They worked closely during<br>\nDecember&apos;s ASEAN Summit in Bangkok and during last month&apos;s Asia-<br>\nEurope Meeting, also held in the Thai capital.<\/p>\n<p>ASEAN is a socioeconomic grouping comprised of Brunei,<br>\nIndonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and<br>\nVietnam.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The main purpose of the visit is to have an exchange of views<br>\nwith President Soeharto about bilateral relations, regional and<br>\ninternational developments,&quot; Moerdiono explained.<\/p>\n<p>During his visit here Banharn will be accompanied by his wife,<br>\nthe Thai deputy prime minister, minister of foreign affairs and<br>\nminister of agriculture and cooperatives.<\/p>\n<p>They are scheduled to arrive this morning in a private<br>\nairplane at Halim Perdanakusuma airport.<\/p>\n<p>After an official welcome at Merdeka Palace, Banharn will then<br>\nlay a wreath at the Kalibata Heroes cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday the two leaders will witness the signing of a<br>\nmemorandum of understanding on economic cooperation and a<br>\npurchase agreement by their pertinent ministers.<\/p>\n<p>Banharn will then fly to Yogyakarta to visit the ancient<br>\nBorobudur temple, the largest Buddhist temple in the world.<\/p>\n<p>According to Moerdiono, while in Yogyakarta the Thai prime<br>\nminister and his entourage will also conduct a Buddhist prayer<br>\nsession at Candi Mendut, a temple near Borobudur, before<br>\nreturning home later in the afternoon.(mds)<\/p>",
