        "content": "<p>Thai doctors treat Myanmar's deaf<\/p>\n<p>YANGON (AP): A visiting team of 14 Thai doctors has performed<br>\nmore than a hundred operations and treated more than a thousand<br>\npeople afflicted with hearing problems in Myanmar, a government<br>\npress release said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The team, led by Dr. Soonthorn Antarasena of Rajathevi<br>\nHospital in Bangkok, visited Myanmar as volunteers to commemorate<br>\n50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>The team, together with Myanmar specialists, performed 89<br>\noperations and treated 701 cases of hearing loss in Pyay and 73<br>\noperations and 709 cases in Mawlamyine, both in central Myanmar.<\/p>\n<p>Hospitals and medical care in Myanmar, slowly opening to the<br>\noutside world after 26 years of socialist isolationism from 1962<br>\nuntil 1988, are years behind that of neighboring countries.<\/p>",
