        "content": "<p>Thai chicken exports surge<\/p>\n<p>BANGKOK (DPA): Thailand's chicken exports are expected to earn<br>\nthe country up to US$750 million this year thanks to livestock<br>\nepidemics in Europe and Hong Kong, a senior trade official said<br>\non Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\"This year is going to be a wonderful one for Thai chicken<br>\nexports,\" said Taweewan Boonkrue, deputy director-general of the<br>\nThai Foreign Trade Department.<\/p>\n<p>Thailand exported 240,905 tons of chicken last year, primarily<br>\nto Europe and Japan, earning the country 15.7 billion baht<br>\n($344.8 million) and expects this year's chicken exports to reach<br>\n400,000 tons, worth $758 million, said Taweewan.<\/p>\n<p>Thailand's chicken exports to Europe during the first three<br>\nmonths of 2001, boosted by livestock disease fears in Europe,<br>\njumped 45.7 percent to earn the country $185 million.<\/p>",
