Thai Airways to add Indonesian flights<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Thai Airways International will start a new
\nservice route this year linking Bangkok, Jakarta, and Sydney, the
\ncompany announced yesterday.<\/p>\n
The airline's general manager for Indonesia, Sarieng
\nManeelert, said the new route would start Oct. 26 and would be
\nserved by two Airbus A300-600s.<\/p>\n
"Each of the flights, TG985 and TG986, will fly the route four
\ntimes a week," Maneelert said.<\/p>\n
TG985 will fly Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, and
\nTG986 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.<\/p>\n
Both planes had 247 seats, 201 of which would be economy
\nclass, he said.<\/p>\n
The new routes are in addition to the airlines 12 weekly
\nflights linking Jakarta and Bangkok, Thailand and three flights
\nlinking Surabaya, East Java and Bangkok via Denpasar, Bali.<\/p>\n
Maneelert said he was optimistic Thai airlines' prospects in
\nIndonesia this year were good, especially with Southeast Asian
\nGames in Jakarta in October.<\/p>\n
He said the airline expected its load factor on the Indonesia
\nroute to rise to 75 percent this year from 70 percent last year.<\/p>\n
Three carriers, Garuda Indonesia, Qantas, and Ansett
\nInternational, currently link Jakarta and Sydney, Australia.<\/p>\n
Thai Airways joined the Star Alliance last May along with
\nLufthansa, United Airlines, Air Canada, Scandinavian Airlines
\nSystems, and Brazil's Varig Airlines.<\/p>\n
The alliance works on common brand marketing and advertising
\nand to intensify the coordination of routes and shared-code
\nflights in which passengers can be passed on from one airline to
\nthe other.<\/p>\n
Maneelert said the five airlines in the alliance were working
\nto create unified standards.<\/p>\n
He said three other airlines from Japan, South America, and
\nAfrica might join the alliance. He refused to name the airlines.
