        "content": "<p>Textile Museum offers interesting holiday programs<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta Post<br>\nJakarta<\/p>\n<p>To welcome the school holidays and also Jakarta&apos;s 478th <br>\nAnniversary this month, the Textile Museum is offering a number <br>\nof interesting batik painting programs in addition to its regular <br>\nones.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, starting on June 15 (Wednesday), the museum is <br>\nscheduled start an 11-day exhibition of Madurese batik, <br>\ndisplaying more than 100 batik fabrics.<\/p>\n<p>The uniqueness of Madurese batik, compared to those of <br>\nYogyakarta or Cirebon, is its festive colors using bright yellows <br>\nand radiant greens.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the exhibition, the museum hosts a number of booths <br>\nselling traditional crafts and also presents a fashion show <br>\ntitled &quot;Collaboration of Madura and Yogya&quot;, parading the works of <br>\na young Yogyakarta designer Rosso.<\/p>\n<p>For batik lovers who want to know more about batik from <br>\nMadura, the museum holds a seminar about Madurese batik <br>\ndevelopment, featuring batik maker Hasnah Gasim.<\/p>\n<p>Madura, an island northeast of Java island is popular for its <br>\ntasty sate and the traditional karapan sapi bull races.<\/p>\n<p>The people are well-known -- perhaps even notorious -- for <br>\ntheir rough characters, some say due to the island&apos;s arid lands <br>\nand unforgiving heat.<\/p>\n<p>However, Madura also has a glorious history of its Sumenep <br>\nKingdom, which built large ships with magnificent carvings and <br>\ndeveloped its own batik art.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the workshop packages offered by museum:<br>\nMaking hand-painted batik on handkerchief-size cotton fabric <br>\nusing one color for dyeing.<br>\nOne day (two-hour session)<br>\nFee: Rp 25,000<\/p>\n<p>Making hand-painted batik on a handkerchief-size cotton fabric <br>\nusing several colors for the dyeing.<br>\nTwo days (two-hour session)<br>\nRp 50,000<\/p>\n<p>Making hand-painted batik on 25 x 25 centimeter silk using <br>\nseveral colors for the dyeing.<br>\nOne day (three-hour session)<br>\nRp 75,000<\/p>\n<p>Making batik using jumputan technique (tying and dying the <br>\nfabric).<br>\nOne day (two-hour session)<br>\nRp 50,000<\/p>\n<p>For further information:<br>\nMuseum Textile Indonesia, Jl.
