Terrorists seeking new targets: S'pore<\/p>\n
SINGAPORE: Southeast Asian terrorist groups are seeking new
\ntargets and remain a serious threat to the region, Singapore's
\nHome Affairs Minister Wong Kan Seng said on Friday.<\/p>\n
\"Indeed, notwithstanding our successes, we have clearly seen a
\ncertain resilience in the terror networks in the region to
\nregenerate itself with new recruits,\" Wong said at the launching
\nceremony of a new frigate for the Singapore navy.<\/p>\n
\"While we may have seen fewer car bombs of late, we have seen
\nmore suicide bombers with body-borne bombs,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Southeast Asia has been described by the United States as the
\nsecond front in its global \"war on terror\". Jamaah Islamiyah
\n(JI), an al-Qaeda-affiliated group, has been blamed for several
\nattacks in the region, especially in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
\"The terror groups are constantly seeking to exploit the
\nloopholes and gaps in our collective security response,\" Wong
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
\"The terror groups also continue to adapt and adopt new
\nmethods and explore new target arenas for action as the
\nauthorities grow wise to their old methods and tighten up
\nsecurity in the arenas where they had operated before.\" --AFP<\/p>",
