'Terrorists only slowed by tsunami'<\/p>\n
AUSTRALIA: Terrorists in Southeast Asia may have postponed
\nattacks in Indonesia because of the devastating Dec. 26
\nearthquake and tsunami, but their overall plans have not changed,
\nAustralia's No. 2 spy said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Ian Cousins, deputy director-general of the Australian
\nSecurity Intelligence Organization, said terrorist groups may
\nhave \"taken tactical decisions to lay off attacks in Indonesia\"
\nafter the quake and tsunami that left more than 200,000 people
\ndead or missing across much of Asia.<\/p>\n
However, Cousins said, the tsunami had not prompted any major
\nideological shift among extremists.<\/p>\n
\"In Southeast Asia, the tsunami that so tragically affected
\nparts of Indonesia and other countries did not lead and has not
\nled to any fundamental rethink by terrorists in that region,\"
\nCousins said at a national security conference.<\/p>\n
\"We can be certain the tsunami has not resulted in any change
\nof strategic direction. We must expect that Australia and its
\noverseas interests will continue to be targeted,\" he added.<\/p>\n
Terrorist bombings on Indonesia's Bali island killed 202
\npeople, including 88 Australians, in 2002. Last year, a suicide
\ncar bombing at the Australian Embassy in Jakarta killed 10
