Terror suspect's death unconfirmed<\/p>\n

The National Police have denied a report that Indonesian
\nterrorist suspect Umar Patek was killed last week by the
\nPhilippine army during a raid in the southern part of the
\ncountry.<\/p>\n
National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Aryanto Boedihardjo said
\non Friday that the Philippine National Police (PNP) had contacted
\nNational Police Headquarters saying that they had never issued a
\nstatement on the death of the alleged terrorist.<\/p>\n
\"Last week we received a report from an unknown source saying
\nthat Umar was killed in Sitio Tinugos jungle in Maguandao area in
\nthe Southern Philippines, but the PNP said that they could not
\nconfirm whether it was Umar or not,\" Aryanto said.<\/p>\n
He explained that the National Police's senior liaison officer
\nin the Philippines, Sr. Comr. Bambang Saidi, had talked to the
\nregional head of the PNP's intelligence and investigation
\ndivision Angelito Cansimbiro and found out that the news of
\nUmar's death was not issued by the Philippine police.<\/p>\n
An officer from the Indonesian Consulate General Office in the
\nsouthern Philippine city of Davao Bambang Gunawan had contacted a
\nspokesman at the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) about
\nUmar's death and the spokesman confirmed that the body was not
\nUmar's.<\/p>",
