Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that he has\nremoved Spain from the Civilian-Military Coordination Centre tasked with\noverseeing the ceasefire in Gaza. This step marks the growing rift in\nrelations between the two countries following Spain\u2019s support for\nPalestine.<\/p>\n
The body, consisting of military personnel from various countries,\nwas established as part of the 20-point peace plan by US President\nDonald Trump, which forms the basis of the Gaza ceasefire. The\ncoordination headquarters is located in Kiryat Gat, a region controlled\nby Israel.<\/p>\n
\u201cIsrael will not stand idly by in the face of those who attack us.\nSpain has defamed the reputation of our heroes, the IDF soldiers, the\nmost moral soldiers in the world,\u201d Netanyahu said, as reported by the\nTimes of Israel.<\/p>\n
\u201cTherefore, I have instructed today to remove the Spanish\nrepresentative from the coordination centre in Kiryat Gat, after Spain\nhas repeatedly chosen to oppose Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trump stated that he will not allow any country to wage a diplomatic\nwar against Israel \u201cwithout paying commensurate consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n
This occurs amid sharp criticism from Spain regarding Israel\u2019s war\nagainst Iran, Israel\u2019s policies in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, and\nthe deadly bombing campaign and invasion in Lebanon.<\/p>\n
Most recently, Spain condemned Israel\u2019s attacks in Lebanon and the\nbroader war against Iran on Thursday. In his address to parliament\nmembers, Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares described the conflict as\nan attack on civilisation and reiterated the scathing criticism levelled\nby Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez against Trump\u2019s decision to attack the\nIslamic Republic.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are facing the greatest attack on civilisation built on humanist\nideals regarding reason, peace, understanding, and universal law over\nthe abuse of power, violence, and arbitrariness,\u201d Albares said.<\/p>\n
He accused Israel of violating international law and the two-week\nceasefire that was recently mediated after a massive wave of airstrikes\nin Lebanon killed more than 250 people on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Sanchez, who has emerged as a main opponent of the war, has closed\nSpanish airspace to any aircraft involved in the confrontation that he\ndescribed as reckless and illegal.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday evening, he repeated his call for the European Union to\ncancel its association agreement with Israel and urged an end to\n\u201cimpunity for (Israel\u2019s) criminal actions.\u201d<\/p>\n
