        "content": "<p>Tenggerese to hold chant contest<\/p>\n<p>SURABAYA: Tenggerese sorcerer Soedjai said on Thursday that<br>\npeople living near Mount Bromo in the East Java regency<br>\nProbolinggo would perform the Sanskrit chant prayer contest<br>\nbefore commemorating Yadnya Kasada Day on Sept. 23.<\/p>\n<p>The Tenggerese, strong followers of Hinduism, celebrate Yadnya<br>\nKasada Day during which they show their gratitude to Sang Hyang<br>\nWidhi Wasa (the one and only God) by giving offerings and<br>\nsacrificing animals.<\/p>\n<p>Soedjai said that the tribe would also perform its dramatic<br>\nfolk dance, and get holy water before the ritual of Kasada. The<br>\nfour hour ritual starts at 12 p.m. and ends when the offerings<br>\nare tossed into Bromo's crater.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of Tenggerese descendants from Probolinggo,<br>\nLumajang, Pasuruan, and Malang regencies will bring the offerings<br>\nto Luhur Temple on the massive sandy crater near Mount Bromo,<br>\naccompanied by lantern light and traditional music. --Antara<\/p>",
