Ten students rounded up<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Police rounded up 10 senior high school students
\nwho were involved in a brawl at the Hotel Indonesia roundabout in
\nCentral Jakarta yesterday, an official said.<\/p>\n
\"They were some of some 200 high school students from STM PGRI
\nXII in West Jakarta and SMA Nusantara in Central Jakarta who
\nclashed near the roundabout at about 1 p.m.,\" city police
\nspokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang told reporters.<\/p>\n
The 10 students were taken to the Jakarta Police Headquarters
\nfor questioning, he said.<\/p>\n
\"We will question them and summon their parents,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Yesterday's brawl, which occurred on the first day of the new
\nschool year, caused heavy traffic congestion for about 2.5 hours
\non nearby thoroughfares, including Jl. Jend. Sudirman, Jl.
\nThamrin, Jl. Diponegoro and Jl. Kebon Kacang.<\/p>\n
When police officers tried to disperse the crowd, most
\nstudents escaped and hid in nearby buildings or climbed aboard
\npassing public transportation vehicles.<\/p>\n
\"Luckily the officers could control the situation,\" Aritonang
\nsaid, adding that police seized a machete from a state-owned PPD
\ncity bus plying the Blok M-Senen route from which the students
\nstarted the brawl after taunting each other.<\/p>\n
\"There were no injuries reported. Let's hope this kind of
\nincident will not happen again... it will only make the current
\nsituation worse,\" Aritonang added. (edt)<\/p>",
