Ten corruption cases alluded to at Pertamina<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Attorney General Marzuki Darusman hinted on
\nFriday evening of 10 corruption cases in dubious projects at
\nstate-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina.<\/p>\n
\"Several cases which we are currently focusing on, involve the
\nchildren and cronies of former president Soeharto,\" he told
\njournalists after a meeting with the new Minister of Energy and
\nMineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro and Pertamina president
\nBaihaki Hakim.<\/p>\n
Marzuki said that out of 14 cases submitted to his office by
\nBaihaki early last month, one contract was not considered tainted
\nby corruption while three others which involved former mines and
\nenergy minister Ginandjar Kartasasmita were still under
\ninvestigation.<\/p>\n
Ginandjar was believed to have been involved in contracts with
\nindications of corruption for the development of the Balongan
\nrefinery in Indramayu, West Jawa; the selection of Paiton Energy
\nfor the power purchase contract in East Java; and the contract
\nagreement with U.S-based oil company Arco.<\/p>\n
Now, Arco has merged with the British-U.S-based Beyond
\nPetroleum, formerly known as British Petroleum.<\/p>\n
Marzuki said one case involved insurance company Tugu Pratama,
\nwhose 35 percent of shares belongs to the Nusamba Group owned by
\ntimber tycoon Mohammad \"Bob\" Hasan, who was once Soeharto's
\ngolfing-mate.<\/p>\n
However, he said, Pertamina was currently still handling the
\ncase and has yet to hand over the investigation to the Attorney
\nGeneral's Office.<\/p>\n
\"Among other cases, we will soon investigate a project
\ninvolving Ustra Indo, a company owned by Tutut and Tommy,\" he
\nsaid, referring to Soeharto's eldest daughter Siti Hardijanti
\nRukmana and youngest son Hutomo Mandala Putra respectively.<\/p>\n
Earlier in the day, dozens of members of the Community
\nAssociation for Humanity and Justice (Humanika) staged a rally at
\nthe Attorney General's Office, expressing their disappointment on
\nMarzuki's performance in handling corruption cases.<\/p>\n
They threw several rotten eggs, hitting the symbol of justice
\ninstalled at the office's front gate.<\/p>\n
With caricatures depicting Marzuki's \"relationship\" with
\nsuspects of the high profile Bank Bali scandal and owners of the
\ndefunct banks whose cases are currently in the hands of the state
\nprosecutors, they forced their way through to reach Marzuki's
\nroom.<\/p>\n
They delivered speeches expressing their disappointment on
\nMarzuki's work in handling corruption cases, including
\nSoeharto's, accusing Marzuki of having received bribes. They
\ndemanded he resign.<\/p>\n
After staging the rally for an hour, they burned a framed
\nMarzuki caricature in front of the building before leaving the
