        "content": "<p>Temples real boost to the sale of handicrafts<\/p>\n<p>By Singgir Kartana<\/p>\n<p>YOGYAKARTA (JP): The popularity of the Borobudur and Prambanan<br>\nTemples as tourist resorts have given a real boost to the sale of<br>\nhandicrafts in Yogyakarta and its neighboring areas.<\/p>\n<p>For Anjarini, 47, the immense and ornate structures of the<br>\nBorobudur Buddhist temple and Prambanan have become her primary<br>\nsources of inspiration for her art.<\/p>\n<p>Since l985, she has created various forms of miniatures of<br>\nBorobudur and Prambanan temples as souvenirs for both local and<br>\nforeign visitors. She has also produced statues and stone reliefs<br>\nadopting the stone carvings of the two temples.<\/p>\n<p>Anjarini started her venture with only Rp 5 million.<\/p>\n<p>Her business went quite well and soon she began receiving<br>\norders from customers in Yogyakarta and other areas as well.<\/p>\n<p>Among her favorite products are the miniatures of the<br>\nBorobudur temples and stone carvings portraying fragment from the<br>\ntemple's relief.<\/p>\n<p>\"I use stone as raw materials for most souvenir products,\"<br>\nexplained the mother of three.<\/p>\n<p>She buys the materials from Wonosari, 40 kilometers east of<br>\nYogyakarta, and Tulung Agung in East Java.<\/p>\n<p>The prices of the souvenirs range from Rp 60,000 to Rp 5<br>\nmillion a piece depending on the size and quality of each<br>\nproduct.<\/p>\n<p>Anjarini felt the prospects for her business were very good.<br>\nIn order to expand her business, she hired several artists to<br>\nimprove the quality and design of her art works. Anjarini is now<br>\nproducing more than 50 kinds of art products including stone<br>\ncarvings, statues and other items.<\/p>\n<p>Anjarini claims that her works have distinguished designs and<br>\nexquisite finishing touches.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, around 19 artists and craftsmen are now working at<br>\nAnjarini's workshop on Jl. Kyai Mojo 31. With a monthly<br>\nproduction of 12,000 units per month, Anjarini can earn around Rp<br>\n10 million per month.<\/p>\n<p>Her souvenirs are now available at local markets in Bali,<br>\nSurabaya, Jakarta and Bandung. She also ships her products to<br>\nAustralia, the United States, the Netherlands, Germany, France,<br>\nBrunei Darussalam, Belgium, Singapore, Malaysia, and the<br>\nPhilippines.<\/p>\n<p>\"I also try to promote my products on the Internet.
