The North Jakarta branch office of the state-owned
\ntelecommunications corporation (Telkom) has since April 2001 been
\nadvertising a 60 percent discount off the cost of installing a
\nnew telephone line. Interested in the offer, I registered myself
\nas a new subscriber but, to my surprise, I was told there were no
\nlines available.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, many people have also registered to avail of the
\noffer, and I know of one person who registered for a new phone
\nline before the offer and already paid the fee, who has been
\nwaiting for more than a year now for a telephone without any
\nconfirmation. And all have been told that no new lines are
\navailable.<\/p>\n
What surprises all of us prospective subscribers is that
\nTelkom has been offering something they do not have, so that
\nTelkom has been telling a big lie to the public, most of them the
\nhave-nots who like most Jakartans badly need telephone lines.<\/p>\n
I am writing to kindly ask Telkom to pay attention to us, and
\nto improve their service to the public.<\/p>\n
