        "content": "<p>Telkom using technology from Korea<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: State telecommunications company PT Telkom has<br>\nstarted operating the code division multiple access (CDMA)<br>\nfacilities supplied by South Korean electronics giant Samsung<br>\nElectronics, a press release said Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Samsung said the equipment, called the \"base station system\"<br>\n(BSS), which it had installed in Surabaya, began commercial<br>\noperation this Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The CDMA 2000 1X-system equipment, which has the capacity of<br>\nserving 40,000 telephone lines, provides voice calls, Internet<br>\naccess, email service, short messaging service, facsimile<br>\ntransmission and voice mails.<\/p>\n<p>The project was part of the deal signed by Samsung and Telkom<br>\nunder the deal worth US$200 million, aimed to modernize<br>\nIndonesia's telecommunications network.<\/p>\n<p>Under the deal, Samsung will supply the BSS to Java,<br>\nKalimantan, Sulawesi and Bali with a total capacity of 800,000<br>\ntelephone lines.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the BSS, Samsung will also supply Telkom with<br>\nmobile switching centers (MSC) to handle 1.6 million subscribers<br>\nof Telkom. -- JP<\/p>",
