Telkom secures $325m loan<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom), the state-
\nowned company for domestic telecommunication services, has
\nsecured a US$325 million soft loan from the World Bank, an
\nexecutive said.<\/p>\n
Antara reported yesterday that Telkom's president, Setyanto P.
\nSantoso, said the 20-year loan was given with an annual interest
\nrate equal to \"the rate of the World Bank's loans for the
\nIndonesian government.\"<\/p>\n
Available records state that the average interest rate on
\nWorld Bank loans to the Indonesian government is about six
\npercent per annum.<\/p>\n
Setyanto did not say when the World Bank actually extended the
\nloan to Telkom.<\/p>\n
The government plans to float Telkom's shares on the capital
\nmarket here, as well as the London and New York stock exchanges
\nby the end of this year.<\/p>\n
Setyanto said the World Bank loan will be allocated for the
\nfinancing of several infrastructure projects, particularly those
\non telecommunication networks.<\/p>\n
One example of such projects, he said, is the Jakarta-Surabaya
\nfiber optic project, conducted in cooperation with the French-
