        "content": "<p>Telkom rings wrong number with kiosks<\/p>\n<p>BOGOR (JP): Operators of the 253 telecommunications kiosks<br>\nhere have complained of carelessness by PT Telkom in issuing new<br>\nlicenses without first considering interests of existing<br>\nbusinesses.<\/p>\n<p>They charged on Tuesday that the state telecommunications<br>\nfirm's negligence had led to the proliferation of the kiosks,<br>\nlocally known as Wartel, which in turn caused a significant drop<br>\nin their earnings.<\/p>\n<p>\"There are many new kiosks around mine now, which has caused a<br>\ndecline in our daily turnover,\" said Djoko, the owner of a kiosk<br>\non Jl. Siliwangi.<\/p>\n<p>Leman, who operates a business Jl. Baru in Cimanggu, added:<br>\n\"My turnover has dropped about 25 percent since the appearance of<br>\nthe new kiosks here.\"<\/p>\n<p>The operators said they hoped Telkom would be more<br>\ndiscriminating in its license issuance by studying an area first.<\/p>\n<p>\"Otherwise, many of the existing operators will go bankrupt<br>\nand the business will be taken over by those with big funding,\"<br>\nLeman said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the meeting of the Bogor Association of Wartel<br>\nOperators (APWI) -- held on Sunday and Monday -- also urged<br>\nTelkom to slightly reduce its designated take of kiosks' earnings<br>\nto help operators weather the financial crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Telkom has been asked to collect 85 percent, instead of the<br>\ncurrent 92.5 percent, on tolls on international calls made from<br>\nkiosks.<\/p>\n<p>Local Telkom spokesman Harismaya declined to comment<br>\nspecifically on the operators' complaints.<\/p>\n<p>\"It's valuable input for us.
