        "content": "<p>Telkom prepares facilities for MPR General Session<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): State-owned PT Telkom has prepared the<br>\nconnections for two temporary telecommunication centers to<br>\nsupport next month's General Session of the People's Consultative<br>\nAssembly (MPR), an executive said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Telkom president A.A. Nasution said the centers, to be set up<br>\nin the Assembly building, would have 12 telephone lines, several<br>\nmodems, facsimiles and telex machines for MPR members and the<br>\nmedia.<\/p>\n<p>\"We hope that these facilities can assist members of the<br>\nassembly and media to do their work during the session,\"<br>\nNasution, who checked on preparations at the company's Jakarta<br>\noffice on Jl. Gatot Subroto, South Jakarta, said.<\/p>\n<p>The new facilities will back up existing resources, which<br>\nconsist of 23 coin-operated and 28 card or magnet public<br>\ntelephones.<\/p>\n<p>The two temporary centers will be set up near the media room<br>\nand the main session room.<\/p>\n<p>The sessions are scheduled to be held between March 1 and<br>\nMarch 11, when 1,000 members of the Assembly endorse the State<br>\nPolicy Guidelines and elect a president and vice president for<br>\nthe next five-year term.<\/p>\n<p>Nasution officiated yesterday the handover of 14 mobile phone<br>\nunits to Jakarta Military Command from four private mobile phone<br>\nservice providers: Telkomsel, Satelindo, Excelcomindo and<br>\nKomselindo.<\/p>\n<p>The command's assistant for logistic matters, Col. Koesnadi,<br>\nsaid the mobile phone donation would assist military security<br>\noperations during the sessions.<\/p>\n<p>\"These mobile phones will be used especially by intelligence<br>\nofficers to replace the use of walkie-talkies,\" Koesnadi told The<br>\nJakarta Post.<\/p>\n<p>\"By carrying the mobile phones, our officers can go anywhere<br>\nwithout being noticed by people around them because they will no<br>\nlonger have to handle chunky facilities or deal with the devices'<br>\nnoisy chitter-chatter.\"<\/p>\n<p>Telkom vice president for corporate communications D.<br>\nAmarudien said his office had stepped up its cooperation with<br>\nJakarta Police in line with the security measures.<\/p>\n<p>He said the company was also helping police trace telephone<br>\nnumbers allegedly used by irresponsible people to spread rumors.<\/p>\n<p>Amarudien refused to disclose the mechanism used or the result<br>\nof the cooperation, particularly the tracing of people who have<br>\nspread rumors about bombs and riots.
