Telkom prepares CATV network<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The state telecommunications company PT Telkom
\nplans to create a new subsidiary to set up a cable television
\n(CATV) network.<\/p>\n
Company president Asman A. Nasution told The Jakarta Post
\nyesterday that the planned company would use the fiber optic
\nnetworks laid by Telkom in recent years.<\/p>\n
Nasution refused to give further details about the CATV plan.<\/p>\n
Telkom, with the state-owned international telecommunications
\ncarrier Indosat, is also a shareholder in PT Menara Jakarta, a
\nprivate firm which plans to develop the 550-meter Menara Jakarta
\ntower.<\/p>\n
The multi-million-dollar tower, to be erected in Kemayoran,
\nCentral Jakarta, is set to become the tallest building and the
\nmain multimedia center in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Yayasan TVRI foundation and PT Indocitra Grahabawana, a
\nprivate firm controlled by Sudwikatmono, Prayogo Pangestu and
\nHenry Pribadi, also have shares in PT Menara Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Telkom also has a 35 percent shareholding in PT Telemedia
\nIndonesia which was set up last year as a multimedia company to
\nprovide news, videos, audio, home shopping and games on demand.
