Telkom installs facilities<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): State-owned PT Telkom has installed a variety of
\ntelecommunications networks and facilities to support the 19th
\nSEA Games, which starts on Oct. 11 and ends on Oct. 19.<\/p>\n
Company director, Dadad Kustiwa, said yesterday that Telkom
\nhad not allocated a particular sum or targeted additional income
\nfrom providing the facilities.<\/p>\n
"We have just increased the capacity of existing networks. We
\nare not looking for any profit from the event," Kustiwa said
\nafter inspecting some of the installed facilities at the Senayan
\nsports complex yesterday.<\/p>\n
He said that the facilities were installed in close
\ncooperation with other telecommunications companies, including PT
\nIndosat, PT Satelindo and PT Lintasarta.<\/p>\n
Dadad said that the telecommunications facilities consisted of
\nbroadcasting transmission services for television and radio
\nstations, modulation networks for competition data traffic and
\npublic services like telecommunications kiosks, pay phones and
\nfacsimiles.<\/p>\n
Telkom has prepared six telecommunications kiosks. Each kiosk
\nhas 31 telephone lines, 10 facsimile lines, one telex line, one
\npay phone line, and 13 other lines for coordinating affairs.<\/p>\n
The company has also set up service points and other smaller
\noutlets at various locations around Senayan.<\/p>\n
A total of 377 pay phone lines have been installed, consisting
\nof 113 coin phones, 94 magnetic-card phones, 127 chip-card phones
\nand 43 credit-card phones.<\/p>\n
For communication data, Telkom has established 155 lines,
\nincluding 10 lines for access servers, 34 lines for incoming only
\nand 111 lines for operator utilities.<\/p>\n
The company has also installed facilities for print and
\nbroadcasting media.<\/p>\n
For overseas broadcasters there are 75 leased circuit channels
\n(65 lines for telecast and 10 for radio), 12 facsimile lines and
\n31 lines for telecast. Local broadcasters will be able to use 93
\nleased circuit channels, one facsimile line and 24 lines for
\ntelecast.<\/p>\n
Telkom, which is deploying 250 personnel to support its SEA
\nGames operations, has installed seven telephone lines for foreign
\nprint media and seven lines and two leased channels for local
\nprint media.<\/p>\n
Dadad said that Telkom had contributed about Rp 4.2 billion
\n(US$1.07 million) from telephone subscribers for the SEA Games
\nconsortium as part of its sponsorship deal. (icn)<\/p>",
