Telkom halts big projects<\/p>\n
YOGYAKARTA (JP): State-owned domestic telephone monopoly PT
\nTelkom said over the weekend it would cancel all large, long-term
\nprojects and instead concentrate on developing quick yielding
\nprojects.<\/p>\n
Telkom president Asman Akhir Nasution said here that even
\nongoing large projects would be halted, like the micro-digital
\nproject linking Ambon in Maluku and Jayapura in Irian Jaya.<\/p>\n
\"We're halting that project and all other large projects which
\nconsume huge funding. We'll give priority now to quick yielding
\nprojects,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Nasution also maintained that Telkom would not succumb to the
\ndemand from the state minister of the empowerment of state
\nenterprises, Tanri Abeng, to conduct an extraordinary
\nshareholders meeting to reshuffle the boards of directors and
\ncommissioners.<\/p>\n
He argued that there was no strong reason to hold such an
\nextraordinary shareholders meeting in the near future. (23)<\/p>",
