Telkom, co-ops sign agreement<\/p>\n
The state-owned telecommunications company, PT Telkom, has
\nrenewed its agreement with 10 multi-purpose cooperatives on the
\nmanagement of 890 coin operated public telephone booths in
\nCentral Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The agreement, marking the extension of the contract between
\nthe company and the cooperatives which was launched in 1991, was
\nsigned by the head of the Central Jakarta PT Telkom Office G.S.
\nSigit Pramono and managers of the cooperatives over the weekend.<\/p>\n
\"If the cooperation proves successful, the number of phone
\nbooths managed by the cooperatives will be increased to around 40
\npercent of the total 3,308 coin operated public telephones in the
\nmayoralty from the current 890,\" Pramono said.<\/p>\n
In view of the small number of public telephones damaged by
\nvandals in the mayoralty over the past few years, the cleanliness
\nof phone booths and the new jobs generated by the cooperative,
\nPramono considered the cooperation useful to cooperatives, as
\nwell as to PT Telkom. (has)<\/p>",
