Telkom building catches fire<\/p>\n
SEMARANG: The three-story building housing the Central Java
\nheadquarters of state-owned telecommunications company PT Telkom
\nwas gutted by fire yesterday.<\/p>\n
Six fire brigades were sent to the blaze on Jl. Pahlawan in
\nthe provincial capital, Antara reported. The firefighters could
\ndo little because the fire had already engulfed the building,
\naccording to the news agency.<\/p>\n
No casualties were reported.<\/p>\n
A day earlier, the eighth floor of a partially-completed
\nbuilding adjacent to the Telkom building was damaged by fire.<\/p>\n
Yesterday's fire was first spotted on the first floor. It
\nquickly spread to the rest of the building.<\/p>\n
Telkom employees managed to save some vital equipment but most
\nof it was destroyed by the fire, according to Antara.<\/p>\n
Police are investigating the cause of the fire, which is
\nbelieved to have started in the generator room.<\/p>\n
The blaze was the third major fire to strike government
\noffices in Semarang this month. The first was at the Central Java
\nadministration's sociopolitics office, while the second was at an
\noffice belonging to PT PLN, the state-owned electricity company.
