        "content": "<p>Telkom, AT&amp;T sign deal<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The state-owned telecommunications company PT<br>\nTelkom signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday with AT&amp;T<br>\nof the United States for the expansion and extension of fiber-<br>\noptic routes in Java.<\/p>\n<p>The president of AT&amp;T Indonesia, Lie Gondo, said in a<br>\nstatement that the expansion and extension of the fiber-optic<br>\nnetwork, which is based on the latest Synchronous Digital<br>\nHierarchy transmission technology, will be completed in 1996.<\/p>\n<p>AT&amp;T Indonesia, a joint venture with PT Citra Telekomunikasi<br>\nIndonesia, provided Synchronous Digital Hierarchy transmission<br>\nand fiber-optic cables last year to connect Batam island&apos;s<br>\ntelephone systems.<\/p>\n<p>AT&amp;T Indonesia&apos;s plant is worth US$25 million and is located<br>\nin Cibitung, West Java.
