Telin, a subsidiary of Telkom Indonesia, is developing an\ninternational submarine cable network through its Indonesia Cable\nExpress (ICE) programme, which encompasses 14 submarine cable projects\nto strengthen Indonesia\u2019s connectivity with Asia, Europe, the Middle\nEast and the Americas.<\/p>\n
The submarine cable projects are not being built all at once, but\nrather in stages according to the needs of each corridor. Telin CEO\nAbdul Rahman Ansyori explained that execution is being carried out\ngradually, taking into account existing network capacity and the needs\nof the digital ecosystem.<\/p>\n
\u201cICE Cable is Indonesia Cable Express. It consists of 14 submarine\ncable projects that will connect Indonesia to the rest of Asia, to\nEurope, the Middle East, America and Asia,\u201d said Abdul Rahman after a\npress conference at the Bali Annual Telkom International Conference\n(BATIC) 2026 in Nusa Dua, Bali.<\/p>\n
Abdul Rahman added, \u201cWe are executing the first staging gradually. We\nare looking at which corridor we want to secure. We already have several\ncables.\u201d<\/p>\n
Director of Wholesale & International Service at Telkom\nIndonesia, Budi Satria Dharma Purba, said that Telin\u2019s submarine cable\nbusiness has so far focused on three main corridors: Asia, Asia-America\nand Asia-Europe. However, Telin is now beginning to explore\nopportunities in other regions, including the Middle East and Latin\nAmerica.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are also exploring. Perhaps some time ago media colleagues also\nknew that Telin expanded to the Middle East. We have started opening\noffices and so on. That is part of our initiation,\u201d said Budi.<\/p>\n
He continued, \u201cSo we certainly want to look at business opportunities\nelsewhere, outside of Telin\u2019s current comfort zone.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite continuing its expansion, Telin emphasised that every\ninvestment is made with strict business calculations. Abdul Rahman said\nsubmarine cable investment requires substantial capital, so it must be\nensured that every development has the potential to provide a healthy\nreturn.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe investment plan will continue and will be carried out in\naccordance with the group\u2019s direction. But we will do it very prudently\nand very carefully to ensure that every rupiah we spend will always\nreturn to the country,\u201d said Abdul Rahman.<\/p>\n
