Telecoms services spending to rise<\/p>\n
SINGAPORE: Asia-Pacific spending on telecommunications
\nservices is likely to exceed US$175 billion next year, a research
\nfirm said on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The anticipated figure is an 8 percent hike over 2005 for the
\nregion excluding Japan, according to International Data Corp.
\n(IDC).<\/p>\n
\"The economic outlook for 2006 is healthy, despite continued
\nglobal political, health and environmental uncertainties,\" The
\nBusiness Times quoted IDC Asia-Pacific managing director Eva Au
\nas saying.<\/p>\n
\"This, combined with the relentless pursuit of enterprises and
\ntheir employees to be more competitive, bodes well for the
\ninformation and communications technology industry in the
\nregion,\" she said.<\/p>\n
Information technology spending was forecast to grow 9
\npercent to more than $110 billion, with China and India
\naccounting for 64 percent of the incremental market value.<\/p>\n
IDC also predicted business intelligence software will mature
\nin the region and grow at 10 percent to $315 million in 2006.<\/p>\n
Technology spending will be fueled largely by a surge in
\ndemand from what IDC called the \"e-empowered employee\",
\nincreasingly able to harness technology to be more productive.<\/p>\n
Nine-to-five working hours are making way for 24\/7 operations,
\nIDC noted.<\/p>\n
\"Workspace boundaries are diminishing as employees are no
\nlonger tied to offices,\" Au said.<\/p>\n
According to IDC, the companies that will succeed are those
\nthat rise to the challenge and capitalize on the technology
