Indonesia's Ministry of Communications and Digital predicts a 30-40 per cent increase in telecommunications traffic during the two-week Eid holiday in March 2026, driven partly by government work-from-anywhere policies. The government is mobilising task forces and coordinating with mobile operators to maintain service quality, including deploying 35 radio frequency monitoring units and combining 4G and 5G networks across high-traffic areas.

Jakarta — Indonesia’s Ministry of Communications and Digital has
predicted that telecommunications traffic will surge by up to 40 per
cent during the Eid holiday period in 2026.

Secretary General Ismail stated that the roughly two-week Eid break
will create significant implications for the spike in telecommunications
traffic, estimated at between 30-40 per cent according to reports. He
made the remarks in central Jakarta on Friday during a briefing on the
launch of telecommunications monitoring task forces at the Ministry of
Communications and Digital (Kemkomdigi) office.

Additional factors contributing to the projected increase in
telecommunications usage during the 2026 Eid break include government
recommendations to implement work-from-anywhere (WFA) policies for
employees.

To maintain the quality of telecommunications services during the Eid
al-Fitr holiday of 1447 Hijrah, the government is collaborating with
mobile operators to deploy task forces providing services at dedicated
telecommunications monitoring posts operating from 13-29 March 2026.

“We have already prepared well for this situation, with mobile
operators preparing backup plans to expand network capacity in areas
prone to crowd congestion,” said Ismail. “We are combining 4G and 5G
networks. Even as we introduce 5G, 4G remains as the baseline. This is
especially important during Eid, given the anticipated traffic
surge.”

The government is also intensifying monitoring of radio frequency
spectrum to ensure telecommunications service issues can be detected and
resolved promptly.

During the 2026 Eid break, Kemkomdigi will deploy 35 Technical
Implementation Units of Radio Frequency Spectrum Monitoring Centres to
oversee the quality of telecommunications services provided by mobile
operators.
",
