The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents\nvarious opportunities in education, industry, and technology. However,\nmastery of technology alone is deemed insufficient. The younger\ngeneration is also required to possess ethics, professional discipline,\nand critical thinking skills to utilise technology responsibly. This\nmessage emerged from a National Seminar entitled \u2018Empowering 21st\nCentury Digital Talents: Professional Discipline for Ethical Artificial\nIntelligence and Critical Thinking in Informatics\u2019, organised by the\nInformatics Engineering Undergraduate Programme at Pamulang University\n(Unpam).<\/p>\n
Indonesian technology and internet expert, Onno W. Purbo, highlighted\nthe importance of building character and professional responsibility\nalongside the expanding use of AI in various sectors of life.\n\u2018Technological development must be balanced with critical thinking\nskills so that users can understand the benefits, risks, and ethical\nimplications of using digital technology,\u2019 said Onno.<\/p>\n
The seminar also emphasised that students, as future professionals in\nthe field of information technology, need to have more comprehensive\nreadiness. Beyond mastering technical aspects, they are required to\nunderstand the social impact of technology and be capable of making\nresponsible decisions in the development and utilisation of AI.<\/p>\n
Through this forum, participants were encouraged to see AI not merely\nas a technological innovation, but as part of a major shift that\nrequires human resources with integrity and adaptability to the changing\ntimes. The organisers explained that the seminar had several strategic\nobjectives, including enhancing students\u2019 understanding of AI\ndevelopments, strengthening awareness of technology ethics, fostering\nprofessional discipline, and honing critical thinking skills in\nanalysing various AI-based technologies.<\/p>\n
The theme raised also reflects the current needs of the digital\nindustry. Amidst the acceleration of digital transformation, companies\nrequire not only a workforce capable of operating technology but also\nindividuals who can understand the consequences of technology use and\ninnovate responsibly.
