Technological progress abounds<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia Air Show '96 is providing a first-hand
\nlook at some of the world's most potential markets in an industry
\nthat has one of the greatest growth rates in Asia.<\/p>\n
Many foreign companies have come to the air show to showoff
\ntheir latest technological achievements.<\/p>\n
One of the 220 companies displaying at the air show is
\nAeronautical Radio of Thailand (AEROTHAI), which is presenting
\nits equipment and services related to air traffic control to the
\nAsia-Pacific region.<\/p>\n
AEROTHAI has been providing air traffic control and its
\nrelated services for international aircraft flying over Thailand
\nfor more than 47 years. Its engineers have acquired the technical
\nskills to manufacture air traffic equipment. This production was
\ninitially aimed at serving AEROTHAI's operations in order to help
\nreduce costs for Thailand, a country which would otherwise have
\nto import this expensive equipment.<\/p>\n
AEROTHAI, a nonprofit organization, has quality competitive
\nproducts at lower prices on the world market. As well as
\nconducting continual after-sales services, AEROTHAI also designs
\nspecific equipment on request from buyers.<\/p>\n
At the air show, AEROTHAI will exhibit its Automatic Message
\nSwitching System, which is a computerized system for high-speed
\nexchange of flight information,. It will also show its Radar
\nSimulator, which is used for training air traffic controllers,
\nand its Aeronautical Telecommunication Network, which is the new
\ncommunication network recommended by the International Civil
\nAviation Organization. The system utilizes digital communication
\nvia satellite and computer network technology for developing
\ncommunications of air-traffic service.<\/p>\n
Another company to exhibit is Boeing. Its latest aircraft, the
\nBoeing 777, will roll across the runway at the air show.<\/p>\n
Harry Hopkins, in Flight International, says the Boeing 777 is
\nthe largest twin-engined aircraft ever. It is Boeing's first fly-
\nby-wire aircraft, but it handles conventionally.<\/p>\n
He says the Boeing 777 boast the most spacious airliner
\ncockpit yet. Boeing's philosophy on this new cockpit could be
\ncalled \"need-to-show\", he says. Meaning that the information a
\npilot needs shows up on the screen at the right moment.<\/p>\n
Its seating arrangements offers six-abreast in first class,
\neight-abreast in business and either nine-abreast or 10-abreast
\nin economy. Rolls Royce, General Electric, and Pratt and Whitney
\nmake the engines for the 777.<\/p>\n
Dassault Aviation, of France, will also jet into the air show.
\nThe Dassault Aviations Group's primary vocation is the design,
\ndevelopment, production, sale and maintenance of military
\naircraft. It builds Falcon business jets and Falcon Multi-role
\naircraft as well.<\/p>\n
Dassault will feature the Rafale weapons system at its booth.
\nThe high-performance weapons system considerably lightens the
\npilot's workload with a innovative man-machine interface.<\/p>\n
Right from the design, special attention has been paid to the
\nRafale's survivability, robustness and low observability. The
\nRafale's low observability is the result of extensive research
\ninto geometric forms, materials and the integration of military
\nloads. The aircraft's self-protection system is fully internal
\nand integrated.<\/p>\n
A multipurpose twin-jet combat aircraft, it is able to carry
\nout a variety of missions using the same engine configuration and
\nthe same navigation and weapons systems, whether for air strikes
\nor for air superiority missions.<\/p>\n
Dassault is also featuring the Mirage 2000-5. Built to carry
\nthe latest weapons systems available, or those still under
\ndevelopment, it enjoys enhanced multimission capability. It is
\ndesigned for air defense and air superiority missions.<\/p>\n
The two-seater version of the Mirage 2000-5 has the twofold
\nadvantage of being adapted for training missions, while
\npreserving the operational capability of the single-seater
\nversion.<\/p>\n
The pilot interface fitted to the Mirage 2000-5 cockpit is
\ncompletely new.<\/p>\n
Indonesian Air Show '96 is an excellent opportunity for
\nbuyers to view the latest aircraft or find information on the
\nlatest technological advancements. It will also enthrall
\nspectators from the moment they enter the grounds.<\/p>",
