After\ndecades of living on land belonging to the Public Cemetery (TPU) owned\nby the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, they now have to leave homes\nthat have become an integral part of their lives. Although difficult,\nsome residents have chosen to accept the relocation in the hope of\nobtaining more decent and healthy accommodation. \u201cSince it\u2019s government\nland, how can I hold on to it? I\u2019ve already been lucky to live there for\n20 years. There\u2019s no choice; I don\u2019t even have money for rent. What else\ncan I do?\u201d said Susilawati when met by Kompas.com at the location on\nMonday. Susilawati admitted that she had tried to find rental\naccommodation in the Kamal area. However, the rental cost of around Rp 1\nmillion per month was beyond her means, making relocation her only\noption. At Rusun Nagrak, she receives a rental subsidy of Rp 550,000 per\nmonth, plus free rent for the first six months. \u201cI\u2019m fine with it; the\nimportant thing is that I\u2019m registered. Who knows, by moving to a healthy\nhouse, the disease will disappear, that\u2019s all I hope,\u201d she said.\nSusilawati\u2019s move is accompanied by her daughter, Mega (25), who is also\nbringing a child.
