Teams ready for Johnie Walker Cup<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Representative teams from around the Far East
\nare poised for a challenging two days of golf at the Johnie
\nWalker amateur inter-club championship on Cheju Island, South
\nKorea, starting Sunday.<\/p>\n
The Chungmun Beach golf course will test the skills of a
\nrecord number of teams representing 16 countries. The event,
\ninitiated in 1991, pits amateur golfers with handicaps from 0 to
\n24.<\/p>\n
Teams from China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, South
\nKorea, Macao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines,
\nSingapore and Thailand will be out in force on the Chungmun
\ncourse, along with newcomers from Japan and Guam\/Saipan.<\/p>\n
The championship uses a 36-hole strokeplay format, with
\nfourteen teams of three players competing in each handicap class.<\/p>\n
Classes are split into three categories. Class A groups
\ngolfers with handicaps between 0 to nine, class B 10 to 16 and
\nclass C 17 to 24. The winner will be the team with the lowest net
\naggregate scores after 36 holes.<\/p>\n
The championship has toured Thailand, the Philippines and
\nIndonesia since 1991 before moving to South Korea. Traditionally,
\nthe championship would be followed by a skin game with a number
