Komandjaja, The Jakarta Post\/Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>The government-sanctioned fact-finding team formed to assist the<br>\npolice investigation into the death of rights activist Munir is<br>\nready to begin work, a police officer said on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Chief of the 13-strong team, Brig, Gen. Marsudi Hanafi said he<br>\nand his colleagues would regroup on Tuesday to put together all<br>\nthe information each member possessed and set a timetable.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We will then exchange our data with the police team&apos;s<br>\nfindings,&quot; said Marsudi, a senior detective.<\/p>\n<p>Presidential Regulation No. 111\/2004 which was signed by<br>\nPresident Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Dec. 23 allows the fact-<br>\nfinding team to convey its views to the police, closely monitor<br>\nthe investigation conducted by the police and summon and question<br>\npeople connected to the case when necessary.<\/p>\n<p>The team has to complete its work within three months of its<br>\nestablishment, but its term could be extended for another three<br>\nmonths.<\/p>\n<p>In the regulation, the President appointed Marsudi the team&apos;s<br>\nchairman, with rights activist Asmara Nababan as his deputy.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the team include Bambang Widjojanto of the<br>\nFoundation of the Indonesian Legal Aid Institute (YLBHI), Usman<br>\nHamid from the Indonesian Human Rights Watch (Imparsial),<br>\nAttorney General&apos;s Office pre-trial director I Putu Kusa, human<br>\nrights campaigners Smita Notosusanto, Kemala Tjandrakirana and<br>\nRachland Nashidik.<\/p>\n<p>However, noted lawyer Todung Mulya Lubis, former first lady<br>\nSinta Nuriah and Muhammadiyah chairman Syafii Maarif, who were<br>\nproposed by rights activists and the National Police, were not<br>\nincluded in the team.<\/p>\n<p>Munir, the founder of both Imparsial and the Commission for<br>\nMissing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras), died of<br>\narsenic poisoning aboard a Garuda flight from Jakarta to<br>\nAmsterdam on Sept. 7.<\/p>\n<p>Police started their probe into Munir&apos;s untimely death after<br>\nthe Netherlands Forensic Institute disclosed the cause of death.<br>\nThe institute said it found excessive levels of arsenic in<br>\nMunir&apos;s stomach, urine and blood.<\/p>\n<p>The police have questioned over 30 people, including Garuda<br>\nflight attendants who were on duty the day Munir died, but have<br>\nnot named any suspects.<\/p>",
