        "content": "<p>Team completes draft on RI's first cyber law<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): A special team of academics from the Bandung<br>\nInstitute of Technology and the University of Padjajaran has<br>\ncompleted a draft on Indonesia's first law on cyber crimes and<br>\nwill present it to the government in October.<\/p>\n<p>Head of the cyber law drafting team Ahmad M. Ramli said on<br>\nMonday that the draft would be presented to the director general<br>\nof posts and telecommunications who will forward it to the<br>\nMinister of Transportation Agum Gumelar.<\/p>\n<p>\"The government will first have to study the draft with other<br>\ntelecommunications experts and the Indonesian consumer agency,<br>\nbefore it is enacted into law,\" he said on the sidelines of a<br>\nseminar on Internet banking.<\/p>\n<p>The law would address crimes dealing with the Internet such as<br>\ncredit card fraud and signature fraud that sometimes occurs<br>\nduring transactions on the Internet, Ahmad said.<\/p>\n<p>It would also address privacy definitions on the Net such as<br>\nhow a company should handle confidential information of its<br>\ncustomers over the Net, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Punishment for cyber crimes would not be as harsh as for<br>\ncrimes made in the \"real world\", Ahmad said, explaining that many<br>\ncyber crimes were committed by people without a lot of money and<br>\ntherefore the fine should be within their capacity to pay.<\/p>\n<p>The law would differentiate crimes committed intentionally for<br>\nprofit and those committed unintentionally and that jail terms<br>\nwould be limited to between two to four years depending on the<br>\nseriousness of the crime, he said.(tnt)<\/p>",
