        "content": "<p>Teaching good from bad<\/p>\n<p>From Kompas<\/p>\n<p>Schools from kindergarten to senior high have not had the<br>\nsubject of budi pekerti (ethics) in their curriculum for over 20<br>\nyears. This subject is essential because it teaches students to<br>\ntell the good from the bad. The teaching stresses that people<br>\nmust choose the good although from nature humankind has the free<br>\nwill to choose between the good or the bad. Therefore, people<br>\nmust be given the capability to differentiate the good from the<br>\nbad.<\/p>\n<p>At a cursory glance, the matter seems to be insignificant<br>\nbecause it concerns ordinary things in daily life. A further<br>\nobservation, however, shows that it is not enough to issue<br>\norders, reminders and prohibitions to children. Besides, children<br>\ndo not like to hear their teachers and parents excessively praise<br>\nthings of the past.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, it is necessary to instruct and educate children on<br>\nthe basics of morals, motivation and good behavior.
