Teachers' wages embezzled<\/p>\n
KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: Governor Herman Musakabe urged the
\nAlor branch of Bank Rakyat Indonesia to repay the salaries of 30
\nelementary school teachers, allegedly embezzled by its employees.<\/p>\n
\"We don't want to see teachers miserable because their
\nsalaries were embezzled,\" Musakabe said, Antara reported
\nyesterday.<\/p>\n
The alleged corruption happened two years ago when teachers on
\nthe Alor island did not receive their salaries, totaling Rp 45
\nmillion (about US$21,000), for two months running.<\/p>\n
Four bank employees found guilty of embezzling the money have
\nbeen imprisoned but there is no indication that the teachers will
\nget their money back.<\/p>\n
The teachers have also brought the case to the attention of
\nthe Vice President in Jakarta, who has ordered Alor regent Hosea
\nDally to look into the matter. (pan)<\/p>",
